Mac Hulbert received his B. Sc. (Hons) in Nuclear Physics and Electronics from Kings College, University of London; his MBA from Oklahoma State University; and his Ph.D. from Washington University in St. Louis. He is Visiting Professor at Henley Management College, and R. C. Kopf Professor of International Marketing Emeritus, Graduate School of Business at Columbia University. He is also actively engaged in Executive Education at Columbia, as well as various consulting ventures.
Professor Hulbert taught at Washington University before going to Columbia Business School in 1969. He has also taught or held visiting positions at numerous institutions worldwide including UCLA, Cardiff Business School (University of Wales), Fundacao Joao Pinheiro (Brazil), Monash University (Australia), and London Business School.
Professor Hulbert has consulted with companies around the world, in-cluding Alcoa, American Cyanamid, ARAMARK, AT&T, Avon, Bank-ers Trust, BASF, Bayer, BHP, BOC, Bowater, Bristol Myers Squibb, Chase Manhattan Bank, Chemical Bank, Citicorp, DuPont, Eli Lilly, Equitable, Fortis, General Electric, Glaxo-Wellcome, Goldman Sachs, GTE, Hallmark, Hoechst Marion Roussel, Hoffmann LaRoche, ICI, Ja-pan Airlines, Johnson & Johnson, Kodak, McGraw-Hill, Merck, Merrill Lynch, MONY, Nabisco, Philips, Rhône-Poulenc, Scottish Hydro, Smith Kline Beecham, Syntex Toyota, Unilever and U.S. Steel.
Professor Hulberts teaching and research interests focus on marketing organization, planning and strategy. He has written almost one hundred papers and articles that have appeared in such journals as the Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Marketing, Management Science, and Sloan Management Review. His books include Advertising and the Public Interest, Managing the Multinational Subsidiary, Marketing: A Strategic Perspective, Total Integrated Marketing: Breaking the Bounds of the Function (Free Press, 2003), and Strategic Management: Creating Value in a Turbulent World (to be published by John Wiley & Sons in 2004).
Professor Hulbert is married with five children, enjoys music, gardening, fishing and competing in his various classic cars. He divides his time between the USA and Europe, where his family resides.
