Stephen Burnell has more than 12 years experience in a range of consulting assignments. For five years he was the managing partner of a private consulting business in Australia prior to moving to the United States in 1999.
His diverse consulting experience includes management, strategy, environmental, and media work for clients including Johnson and Johnson, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Corning Incorporated, ICI, Specialty Minerals, BHP, Exxon, and the Australian Government's Environment, Heritage, and Defense Departments. In this capacity he has led cross-functional teams in designing strategic and market-focused plans, and helped to review, assess, and design business planning processes. He has worked with clients to improve customer understanding, identify growth opportunities, integrate Roadmapping methodologies and develop sustainable competitive advantage.
Prior to consulting, Dr. Burnell worked as a research scientist in several Government and Academic positions. He has taught short courses at the university level and remains an Honorary Research Fellow at Australias Deakin University where he continues to oversee several research projects and supervise a post-graduate student. In addition to his consulting work, he has filmed and produced two documentaries for television that have been broadcast in over 15 countries and won several awards.
Dr. Burnell holds a B.Sc. (Honors) in Biological Science from Flinders University, Australia and received his Ph.D. in Population Biology from the University of Sydney, Australia. He and his wife live in Wilton, Connecticut. He is a keen hiker, scuba diver and photographer.
